My favorite exchange every year!

Thank you for signing up - just knowing we matched tells me you'll do something I love! I hope this is a low-pressure experience for you and you have fun!

Some things about my likes/DNWs and some prompts you can use or ignore at will below.

Generally speaking: I prefer angst over fluff, I like happy endings that come after struggle or discord as much as I love angsty cliffhangers that keep the work grounded in the fandom's reality. I love character studies and backstories. I love minor characters in fic, the chance to flesh out what we don't see on the page or screen. Not into pregnancy AU, high school or university AU, or modern AU. BUT I love canon-divergence or AUs within the given universe (a different meet-cute, or a different ending, for example). While I love angst, I don't love trauma, especially of the sexual variety. Not really into a lot of kink or graphic sex. Love friendship, team-building, friends-to-lovers, unrequited pining, requited pining that's more complicated than those involved want. Absolutely DNW non-canonical character death, rape/dub-con, sexual violence of any kind, body horror, A/B/O, or underage sex.

Fandom-specific prompts under the cut. Very likely there are spoilers for Avengers: Endgame under there as well.

TITLE: All This, to Prove We Cared
FANDOM: Jurassic Park (Movies)
RATING: PG-13
CHARACTERS: Owen Grady, Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm, Simon Masrani
SUMMARY: Alan Grant sends a book to Owen Grady.

Written for [archiveofourown.org profile] jedibuttercup for Not Prime Time 2018

Notes: Title from the Robert Frost poem The Exposed Nest. Alan Grant takes a lot of cues from the Crichton novel here (which I re-read this summer for the first time in more than twenty years), but it is mostly background. This is very much movie-fic.

Also on AO3.

Alan Grant laid his hand on the book in front of him. )

For a long time now, Not Prime Time has been my favorite fanfiction exchange - even more so than Yuletide, I feel like this is a chance to get to write and read under-served fandoms. Maybe that's true and maybe not, but sure feels like it to me :-)

A quick round-up of exchange stories I received over the summer.  I do recommend all of these stories and hope you'll click through to give these deserving authors the hit and a kudos.  :-)

Not Prime Time

Like a Rock by [archiveofourown.org profile] klutzy_girl - An alternate universe story about Grant Ward fitting into the team on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  It's set in the early seasons, prior to the reveal that Ward was HYDRA, and deals with him questioning his own loyalties.  I enjoyed this, because it's a sweet version of events that would have changed some major things in the series.

[community profile] fic_corner
Sweetening the Loaves by [archiveofourown.org profile] Missy - I hoped very much for a book-verse Little House on the Prairie story, and this more than delivered.  A sweet, introspective look at Caroline Ingalls, just as the family has begun to settle in De Smet.  I really loved the author's take on Caroline and Charles' marriage, and her voices are all spot on.  Highly recommend, especially as there is so little in this fandom.

[community profile] rarepairfest
Time and Again by [archiveofourown.org profile] DesertScribe - A crossover between The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings.  Young Boromir ends up in Narnia and meets the Pevensies, and over time he and Susan fall in love - but they are never together for very long, and there's a lot of angst and adventure in their path.  It's a really lovely story and I just love the idea of Susan and Boromir together, especially the way this author makes it happen.

[community profile] genex
Room to Grow by [archiveofourown.org profile] StarSpray - Harry Potter is a fandom where the gen possibilities are endless; this one knocks it out of the park.  Neville, Ginny, and Luna, learning to deal with what happened to them at Hogwarts while Harry was off hunting horcruxes.  It's set post-series, but pre-epilogue.  I can't convey in words how much I love the way this author wrote Neville, in particular.  He's perfect.  This story is definitely worth a read.

[community profile] crossovering
And Bide the Danger by Anonymous - A Narnia/Harry Potter crossover, answering the idea of Susan Pevensie existing in the wizarding world, and having an encounter with Amelia Bones.  The author set this during Amelia's Magical Law Enforcement training, and there is a wonderfully on-target guest appearance, and some incredible world-building to root the reader in the Harry Potter 'verse.  I loved all my stories this summer, but this one made me feel spoiled.  It's very sophisticated writing and I applaud the author for working to fully bring to life both universes so seamlessly.

Eeeee!  Not Prime Time!

Seriously, I love this exchange.  It hasn't once failed to bring the fun.  Plus, NPT means spring and summer and all that comes with those.  Can't complain.

So, dear writer, know that you have an astronomical chance of making my day, just because we matched and you're writing for me.  :-)

Some details and suggestions under the cut.

Howdy NPT writer! Hopefully, we got matched on a fandom you're as excited about as I was when I chose them. I wrote most of what I was thinking in my sign-up, but here's some more about me generally.

Generally, I'm a fan of angst, post-apocalypse canon and AU, buddy road trips, awesome women being awesome, pre-series spec and canon-divergent AUs (the kind that just deviates within the universe - I don't like alt time periods, high school, coffee shop or other such AUs). For most of my fandoms, if I have a ship, it's probably het, but there are exceptions. For all that I like angsty, dark stuff, I don't go in for sexual violence, explicit or otherwise and prefer no irrevocable main character deaths.

Specifics under the cut in case of spoilers, especially for the current season of Game of Thrones and most recent season of The Walking Dead..

Well, the Not Prime Time reveal happened while I was away, so I'm late in posting this here. This fic ate my brain for a good number of weeks. It's wildly AU and went in a totally different direction than I thought it would when I decided I wanted to write about Shireen surviving.

TITLE: In Spite of All Terror
FANDOM: Game of Thrones
RATING:  PG-13
CHARACTERS: Shireen Baratheon, Brienne of Tarth, Sansa Stark, Dacey Mormont, Theon Greyjoy, Podrick Payne, Samwell Tarly, a few others make cameos, and an OC
PAIRING: None
SUMMARY: Shireen Baratheon escapes, and gathers companions, each seeking to survive and none able to continue alone, whether because of danger or duty. This is the tale of how they meet.

Howdy NPT writer! Hopefully, we got matched on a fandom you're as excited about as I was when I chose them. I gave a couple of ideas in my sign-up, but thought I'd flesh it out a bit here.

Generally, I'm a fan of angst, post-apocalypse, buddy road trips, awesome women being awesome, pre-series spec and AUs (the kind that just deviates within the universe - I don't like alt time periods, high school, or other such AUs).

More specifically -

Cut because of spoilers for the current Game of Thrones season )

So, thank you, dear NPT author, and I can't wait to read what you write!

Okay y'all.  There are just a few X-Files sign-ups on Not Prime Time.   Hoping to entice some of you who may have some time and interest to sign up for this!!  Also, there are other fandoms that may fall in your interests.  This sucker is pretty Marvel-heavy right now and while that's totally cool, I'd love a little diversity.

Not Prime Time authors are revealed today, so I can cop to writing the following:

The Man in the Gabardine Suit is a Spy (Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America movies)
Steve and Natasha are on the run. Until one day, they aren't.  This one was written for [livejournal.com profile] snickfic and was from my actual assignment.  I wasn't able to see Captain America: Winter Soldier a second time so my canon is a bit squiffy, and my tonal inspiration was drawn a bit from the final episodes of the first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  But truthfully, I started shipping Steve/Natasha after that movie and the idea of them on the run fascinates me.

To Humbler Functions, I Call Thee (Game of Thrones)
Catelyn Stark, mother.  For [archiveofourown.org profile] etoilecourageuse tried a few different ways of writing what I was driving at: Catelyn Stark's identity as a mother is her highest calling, and how does mothering five children of her own and serving in that function for two other children really become rooted in her?  I also originally tagged this as also being a Song of Ice and Fire story, for which I was chastised in the comments because I shifted the canon to suit my needs re: Robb Stark's birth.  But frankly, since a certain incarnation of Cat is unlikely to grace our screens, and I'm theorizing that every decision, every opportunity of mothering contributes to that eventual fate, I think this story is for both canons.  ::shrug::
