The Exchange at Fic Corner is a gift exchange for fic based on children's and YA books and short stories from picture books to edgy teen novels.  They are holding sign-ups for this exchange right now, due to end on Wednesday.  Would really love to see wider participation on this one!  Assignments are due August 21.

Day 3 - In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created.

(first off, linking back to the challenge master post for reference)

Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream - Stephen King's IT - Post-book, Richie Tozier in high school and his last run-in with It.  Essentially a coming-of-age.  It's one of my favorite stories from the smaller fandoms; Richie was always one of my favorite King characters, and it was fun trying to get in his head.  I kept him out of a later story because I liked this version of him too well.

A Dread of West and a Love of East - The X-Files - I've been the most prolific in XF, of course.  I've written a lot of stuff I'm fond of, some stuff I think sucks (or could at least have used more work before posting), but the story I like the best is this one, about Scully and the pull she begins to feel leading up to "Patient X."

And Death Shall Have No Dominion - Buffy the Vampire Slayer - I come back to this story every so often, especially when doing a rewatch, because I wrote it after a really emotional rewatch of the fifth season.  I don't really remember when I originally posted it, maybe 2008?  In any event, I know I wrote it having knowledge of my mother's illness, because it was while she was sick that season five was the hardest to watch.  I haven't written a lot in BtVS and I don't know if I ever will again, but this was hands-down my favorite story there.

Day 2 - Create a fandom wishlist.

I think I'm mostly going with stories I'd like to see.

1 -Inside Out stories set in the parents' heads, especially Mom's, before/during/after the movie.  I didn't think to ask for this for Yuletide, but now I really want it, probably because this movie became the overnight favorite at our house.  The one I really want is from Mom's Emotions' POV during her pregnancy and while Riley is still an infant, noting that by the time we meet Mom, Sadness is the leader.  Another that would be great is one detailed scenes from the film from Mom or Dad's POV, especially anything that would explain how/why Mom and Dad don't pick up on Riley's extreme disconnect sooner.  Alternate stories from Riley's POV, such as Sadness being left alone because Joy disappears in the tube with the core emotions, and Disgust, Anger, and Fear team up to find her.  The day Disgust appears in Riley's mind, and how it goes.  Sadness and Anger battling it out while Riley is a toddler.

2 - Inside Out/Frozen fusion, where some of the events of Frozen are told from the POV of Elsa's emotions. Fear at the helm!

3 -  Okay, getting away from Disney.  A crossover I've wanted to write forever, and would love if someone else wrote, is The X-Files/It crossover.  Because no way is Derry, Maine NOT in Mulder's files, and no way he'd ignore it if it was.  There are so many ways to come at this, but my thought is to shift the timelines so that it comes to Mulder's desk as a missing persons case, featuring one of the Losers (probably Ben Hanscom).  Or Ben and Beverly, freaked out over losing their memories a second time, go to Mulder and Scully for help.  OR, Mulder encounters It as a child.  Any scenario at all, really.

4 - Star Wars/Firefly gen. I think there are a great many crossover possibilities, especially in the wake of The Force Awakens.  Shepherd Book as a Jedi who didn't complete his training (OR DID HE).  Reavers in the SW galaxy.  River as a padawan.  Mal as a bounty hunter or a Rebellion pilot (Rogue Squadron!).  Lots and lots of ideas.

Fandom Snowflake Challenge banner

Well, here we go.

Day 1 - Talk about why you're participating in Snowflake.

I need to write.  I need to flex these muscles a bit.  I miss fandom for fandom's sake.  Lots and lots of reasons, that boil down to wanting to start this year off with a bit of a fandom kick in the rear.

That's it.  Nothing terribly elaborate or complicated.  It's a thing, I'm doing it (a few days late, but still).

Hello Rare Pair Author!

Well, another summer, another round of challenges and exchanges.  This one is one of my favorites, because we get to go where hardly anyone ever goes (or so it seems!).

Generally, I like plot or character pieces that do a lot of thinking.  I like getting to know a character's backstory, especially when there is none in canon.  I'm not a big fan of fluff for fluff's sake, but happy endings compliant with canon are just fine :-).  I prefer no non-con, gender-swapping or PWP.

Specifics:

Pride and Prejudice - Jane Bennet/Charles Bingley - Jane's perspective on their romance, especially during their separation.  A more serious Charles Bingley (who is undoubtedly more serious on his own, apart from his sisters and Darcy).  AU perhaps?  Bingley wakes up sooner, or doesn't pay any heed to Caroline and Louisa and Darcy.  Bingley is quite ready to be fallen in love with at the Meryton assembly - why?  Did he have his heart broken in town?  Tell me more about Jane without making her weak or simpering.  Compared to Lizzy she's quiet and shy, but what is she like on the inside?  I'm not terribly interested in wedding night stories or anything about their marriage, but their courting deeply interests me!

North and South - Margaret Hale/John Thornton - I am a huge fan of the novel as well as the mini-series, so feel free to pick either for your source here.  I'd kind of like to know why and how Thornton fell in love with Margaret.  Was it just the scene in front of his home during the strike?  Maybe give them a few encounters where he feels emboldened before that.  My favorite AU in this fandom is what would it be like if Margaret accepted his first proposal.  Either because she wants to (!) or maybe Thornton goes to Mr. Hale first and Margaret is backed into a corner. Another idea would be to have the second proposal happen differently - before Margaret leaves Milton?  Or much later - instead of going to make her offer to Thornton in person, she writes to him, and it is a few years before they see one another again.  Pretty much anything will work for me here (but, given what's already out there, maybe stay away from wedding night or anything where Mrs. Thornton is dealing with her usurpation).

The Hunger Games - Cinna/Portia, Katniss/Finnick - Okay, I think Cinna/Portia speaks for itself.  Rebel designers against the world!  How do they get together, is it before the 74th Hunger Games or during?  Is theirs a longstanding partnership?  Who recruited who into rebellion?  Were they both rebels already?  Just tell me a story where the darkness is there, but outside, and together they hold it at bay.  For Katniss/Finnick - I really like them best as friends/allies, but I don't mind them comforting one another.  AU where Peeta doesn't recover, or Finnick isn't allowed on the final mission, whatever.  Don't fridge Annie or Peeta for the sake of romance, please!  But you could, for example, let Peeta not be reaped, so that Katniss as victor encounters Finnick on her own.  So...yeah, anything that doesn't involve unnecessary character death.  HG can skew dark and I don't mind it, but please, no "they have sex for the Capitol crowd"-type stories.

First couple of drabbles (both Firefly) are here.

I'm not limiting myself to word count, but everything will be a minimum of 100 words.

This is just the XF ones. I think I've got 2 or 3 to go, West Wing and Buffy. Look for them probably tomorrow night or Tuesday.

Here we go!
