2012 Yuletide Letter
Oct. 14th, 2012 11:12 pmDear Yuletide Author,
Wow, is it really Yuletide season again?!
First off, let me just say, you rock for doing this and I can't wait to read what you write. My requests are kind of specific, but I'd rather you take license and do as you would like rather than just stick to these ideas. There is a lot of potential in any fandom, and I'd love to see you tap into that with your own ideas as much as follow any scheme I've come up with.
Last year I did a little bit about the kind of writer/reader I am, which I'm copying/updating here: I've been writing fanfiction for about thirteen years, if you don't count the Batman stories I scribbled when I was supposed to be writing compositions for English class. I'm not known for writing fluff or happy endings, and I prefer stories with a darker edge even if they are essentially happy. I don't mind explicit stories but I like plot more. AUs are fine, within the given time period for a specific work. Crossovers are likewise awesome, within the same limit (my favorite never-written AU verse is Lost/The Stand. Seriously, POTENTIAL).
These are the things I have a particular wish for this year:
I have yet to read the Zola novel, so I'm totally unspoiled by what may come in canon. I'm shipping Moray/Denise pretty hard in the series - but I wouldn't want them to get naked and have too much fun too early (especially as Denise's age is kind of ambiguous...). So, unrequited pining, with some soulful glances, wishful thinking, hand-touching, maybe a stolen kiss that one or the other regrets (or thinks he/she does). Or! I love Denise and would love to see her succeed with or without Moray in the picture. Does she get her wish, does she one day have success the way he does?
I am a huge fan of 'The Stand' and yet I think this is the first year I've ever requested it. I think there's a goldmine in the pre- and post-canon, especially with Stu and Frannie as they leave Boulder with her pregnant and little Peter barely toddling. What adventures are in store for them? Do they encounter a version of Flagg out there? Does the family survive and return to Boulder to seek community for the children later?
Or, I'd love some pre-canon Stu, something that foreshadows the events of the novel without giving them away too much. What was it like for him and his wife in the early days, before hard times came to Arnette? Or, what was it like for him after she died? How does he come to be a regular at Hapscombs?
Another idea - crossover 'The Stand' with another King novel (obvious or not so obvious). OR! Stu once thought he met Jim Morrison. Did he?!?!
Feel free to use your imagination here. The only thing I don't particularly like in this fandom is a focus on Flagg - any other character is cool.
Okay. I am an unabashed, from-day-one Cullen/Lily shipper. I'd like to see them happy (for them) and ruling the West and the railroad. Please ignore the canon of the finale and just let them ride off into the sunset together, or take over the railroad like Lily wanted, or something!!
The tagset was missing a few characters I'd like to see, but if you Lily/Cullen is not your thing, gen involving Thomas Durant and the Swede pre-canon would be interesting, or Ruth Cole pre-canon. Cullen in the war (going to war, coming back before he knew his wife had been murdered, fighting the war, living with things that happened in the war) would all be interesting to me. Lily pre-canon, dreaming of the West.
Just don't kill anyone off. We're cool, Yulegoat, we're cool. :-)
