ruthless efficiency can't stop the flu, but it can do wonders for the state of your house

Husband went to bed feeling crappy and woke up certain he has the flu.

So I'm in the process of changing all the plans this week. Making meetings virtual, finding the masks I stashed in the house in case anyone absolutely must interact with someone this week, changing my daughter's lesson schedule, you name it. No one else has any symptoms but I feel like I need to get critical things done now in case I'm knocked down at some point. I would rather not be worried about my boss' social media if I'm running a fever and needing sleep, you know?

Air filter running, humidifiers newly cleaned, Emergen-C purchased, and my pressure campaign to get my husband to do a virtual doctor's appointment is underway.

I really fucking hate how efficient we all are now about illness, if I'm honest.

In totally unrelated news, the padawan got to watch Titanic last night and these were her initial take-aways:

1 - Actually a horror movie
2 - “Mom, WHY did you see this so many times* in the theater?!”
3 - Ismay was the villain
4 - She will never listen to Celine Dion again

* It was 9 times. Once on a date, next time with my best friend, and the rest with male friends who wanted to see it but didn't want to admit to their friends that they did.

She did tell me this morning that while the awful parts of the sinking kept her awake for awhile last night, this morning she's only thinking about the romance, so it didn't totally scar her for life, lol.

I really fucking hate how efficient we all are now about illness, if I'm honest.

It is one of the vestiges of the pandemic, isn't it? It's funny, when I worked at the hospitals pre-pandemic, that's how we acted whenever someone was sick, especially if anyone else in the same department was vulnerable. Masks, hand-washing, taking days off, etc. But out in Cube Land, people just coughed all over each other in meetings. So I don't really think anything of taking precautions because it was always part of my routine, but it is kind of cool to see everyone else taking it seriously now too.

Padawan is not wrong about the horror aspects. I can still think of a dozen deaths during the sinking that have stayed with me - the old couple in the bed, Fabrizio getting crushed by the smoke stack, the little girl and her father swept away in the lower hallway, the propeller guy, and all of those floating frozen bodies in the water. And Ismay WAS the villain!

Definitely a vestige of the pandemic. It has a thousand positives. Staying home when you aren't well is the biggest change, as there used to be this idea of just pushing through it. The red flags that went up for me early in the week definitely saved us a lot of issues, and hopefully kept others well as far as exposure to *us* goes (I can't account for where we were exposed or who might have been sick and didn't know it).

Oh, she was definitely right about Titanic and horror. I thought back on how James Cameron already had a flair for leaning in on the horror in previous movies (The Abyss, Aliens). The scenes in Titanic of Rose in the hallway, water up to her waist and the lights flickering, absolutely terrifying. It was fun, too, telling the padawan that YES OF COURSE Ismay was the villain, and what happened in those later hearings.
