Glad you liked it!! Yeah, my theological argument kind of ignores the fact that Protestant in England means Church of England - the Protestant argument I give has Lutheran roots, but the Church of England was originally a Protestant sect in name only, and the theology behind it is going to be quite different from mainstream, modern Protestantism in the U.S., which is where I gleaned my argument from. Either way, Spike doesn't strike me as having been brought up religious at all, whereas Angel as an Irishman in the eighteenth century was Catholic by default. But then, I figure Joss is ignoring that as well (I mean, Caleb was a Baptist or evangelical preacher in Catholic or maybe Methodist priest garb - it just didn't match up for me). That is, of course, if the religious symbolism thing is even behind it all. It could just be me reading into things! :-)
