A fandom meme, because it seems like the thing to do.
1. What was your first fandom?
Online, it was The X-Files. Offline, it was Batman.
2. What was the first thing you can remember being fannish about?
Batman. When I was little, it was the television show on reruns, and then Burton made Batman with Michael Keaton in 1989 and I was insanely obsessed. For Halloween in the 8th grade, I went as Michelle Pfeiffer's Selina Kyle, from the scene where she goes back to work after Max Schreck pushed her out a window, complete with bandages and volumized perm.
I got into the comics in high school, trying to escape the absurdity of the Joel Schumacher contributions to the film franchise. I adore the darker Christopher Nolan films - I think he's got Batman pegged better than most directors might. And last year, as a birthday present to myself, I got tickets to watch a restored version of the original Batman film with Adam West at the Paramount Theatre in Austin (the film originally premiered there, incidentally). I got to see Adam West in person to boot. That was a blast.
3. Do you enjoy any particular kind of soda?
Really trying to cut back, but I love Dr. Pepper. Especially cane sugar Dublin Dr. Pepper, made here in Texas in a tiny town called, yes, Dublin.
4. What is your most valuable possession?
My car. I would really hate being without it.
5. Current favorite word?
Not so much a word as a phrase. Sine die, or in English, "without another day."
6. Robots or aliens?
Totally aliens, unless we're talking Cylons.
7. First childhood idol?
George Brett.
8. If you could have any superpowers, what would they be?
I often think at-will invisibility would be nice, but these days I'm leaning toward super intelligence.
9. Pragmatism or idealism?
Somewhere in between. I'm an idealist who recognizes the need to work with others. :-)
10. Who are some TV showrunners on your shit list?
Hmmm. Who were the guys behind Star Trek: Enterprise? Also, John Wells. I hold a grudge against Chris Carter every time I watch a mytharc The X-Files episode.
11. Who are your favorite TV showrunners?
Joss still does it for me. JJ Abrams, to a point.
12. Who's your favorite TV writer?
Jane Espenson and Darin Morgan. IMAGINE IF THEY RULED THE WORLD!!!
13. A movie couple that needs to happen that has not actually happened?
Um, movie couple? That's an odd question. So I'll go with TV couple. CJ/Toby needed to be canon.
14. Batman or Superman?
Batman, duh.
15. Favorite kind of cheese?
Swiss
16. Your favorite action figure?
Han Solo and Greedo. It took me AGES to find the Greedo.
17. Favorite TV shows to watch when you're sick?
Oh, endless rewatches of The Office seasons 2 & 3. Or a long afternoon with Gillian Anderson's version of Bleak House.
18. How much do you like Aquaman?
I....really don't.
19. Most anticipated album?
Foo Fighters' new one, for sure.
20. Besides the secrets, what else is River Song hiding in her hair?
Jimmy Hoffa.
