New Year's ficlets!

A few New Year's Eve kisses for you. Enjoy! See y'all next year!

ETA - If there's a kiss you'd like, let me know, I'll see what I can do.

Fandom: The West Wing
Pairing: Josh/Donna

The transition office was supposed to be closed. It was well after five o'clock, and there had been a memo, or something.

Donna knew Josh never read memos. He did like writing them, though. Now that he was going to be chief of staff.

"Josh?"

"Mmm..." He was staring at his computer screen, his eyes squinting. He was going to need glasses before too long.

"Josh, everyone's left. Don't you have plans tonight?"

It was a silly question. She didn't have plans, either. Just to go home, open that pint of Ben and Jerry's, slip into a bubblebath...

Josh looked up from the computer. "Donna?"

"Yes, Josh. That is still my name."

He was looking at her funny. She resisted the urge to brush a hand over her sweater, to check for stains.

He stood up and walked over to her.

Donna stayed where she was, and he was standing less than a foot away. Her breath caught and she prayed he didn't hear it.

"Donna, who left the Christmas decorations up?"

She blinked. "What?"

He leaned closer, and without warning, he pressed his lips to hers. Donna forgot about memos and inaugural speeches. Josh's hands were on her waist, and she forgot her name.

When they left, nearly a half an hour later, Donna noticed the dry mistletoe still hanging from the ceiling.

Fandom: The X-Files
Pairing: Mulder/Scully

"Scully?"

"Mulder?"

"I can't see."

"I can't, either. Where are we?"

"I don't know. I can't find my flashlight. Scully, do you have your weapon?"

"No, I think they took it."

"They?"

"Don't you remember, Mulder? We were at that warehouse, and there was a fight, and they knocked you out. I screamed, but....Mulder, no one knows where we are."

"Kidnapped."

"Did you even tell Skinner we were leaving town?"

"Scully, I...."

"Never mind. My hands are tied. Maybe we can...."

"Come here. Ouch! That was my foot!"

"I'm sorry! Just, try and get your fingers, that's it, now...."

"Scully?"

"Mul...mmmmpphhh..."

Silence.

"Scully, my hands are still tied."

"Mmmhmm."

"Scully, we're still lost."

"Mmmm...."

"Scu...."

Silence.

Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing: James/Lily

He was concentrating on the Snitch in his hands, tossing it back and forth. Sirius knew James; he was nervous.

"C'mon, mate, she's said yes. Nothing to it!"

Remus nodded. "She's probably waiting for you already. Didn't you tell her you'd meet her in the common room at eleven?"

James looked up at them. He was tinged green, as though he'd swallowed Polyjuice Potion.

"She never wanted to go out with me. She's just saying yes as a pity thing."

"On New Year's Eve? Not bloody likely. Girls have a sentimental thing about this night," said Remus.

"Yeah! Girls love big holidays, you know," Peter chimed in.

Sirius took James by the shoulders. "Look, you'll just have to get used to the idea that maybe your charms finally worked on her. Now, go downstairs and quit acting like a prat."

"But...."

Remus sighed. "But what?! You're not backing out, you've been in love with her for years, and...."

"And?"

Remus looked at Sirius, who was trying to say it and couldn't. Peter saved them both.

"Muggles have this tradition, James. They kiss at midnight on New Year's Eve."

"Kiss?" James' voice had already changed, but the squeak that came out over that word would have led a casual listener to believe otherwise.

"Kiss." Sirius was trying not to laugh. "C'mon, you've snogged a Hufflepuff or two, I've seen you."

"Yeah, but..."

"But this is Lily," said Remus. "It won't be the same."

James nodded.

"Well." Sirius, Remus, and Peter all got behind James and shoved him toward the door.

"Get a move on!"

James walked downstairs, feeling a bit like he was walking the plank. Lily would expect something spectacular. Or she wouldn't let him. Or she'd laugh. Or not show up.

Or hit him.

He almost turned around.

The sound of female voices stopped him in his tracks. James didn't want to walk down there if there were others!

"Lily, it'll be fine." Probably Hannah.

"But you said wizards don't usually make a big deal out of New Year's Eve! There's no reason for him to kiss me at midnight!" Lily. James' mouth went dry.

"I thought you didn't want James to kiss you." He made a face; that was Alice, who hadn't forgiven James for putting a frog in her trunk second year.

"Well..." Lily was blushing, he could tell just from her voice.

Hannah said something in a low voice, and James thought it was something encouraging. It must have been, because in the next moment she and Alice were wishing Lily good night. And then it was silent.

Lily was down there waiting for him.

Lily wanted to kiss him.

James straightened up, and went downstairs.

Later that night, when Sirius waggled his eyebrows and pressed for details, all James would say was that it turned out Muggles had some very good traditions.

Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Tara/Dawn

Buffy was out patrolling, and Willow was...well, they didn't talk about Willow, and Dawn didn't like to wonder where she was.

Xander and Anya had left a message, saying they might be by later. Dawn thought Anya was probably kissing Xander's neck while they left the message. So she wasn't expecting them.

Tara was here, though.

They played Monopoly for awhile, until they both admitted that they didn't really like playing it, and they switched to Scrabble. Dawn suspected Tara was letting her win, because "apoclypi" wasn't really a word.

Tara smiled at Dawn, and Dawn felt warm down to her toes.

"Want to make milkshakes?"

Tara was always coming up with ideas like that.

There was chocolate ice cream, but no vanilla. Dawn wondered out loud if they could conjure the right kind, and Tara's eyes got this sad look to them, and she just shook her head.

"Tara?"

"Yeah, Dawn?"

Dawn touched Tara's hand. "Do you miss her?"

Tara tried to smile. "Sometimes. When I'm not thinking about her. I miss her in between."

The milkshakes came out thick, because they ran out of milk. So they used spoons and ate them in the kitchen.

The clock turned to midnight, and Dawn wished Tara a happy new year.

"You have chocolate on your nose," Tara said in response.

Dawn reached up to wipe it away, and Tara stopped her. Their fingers were still linked as Tara leaned in and kissed the tip of Dawn's nose.

Dawn closed her eyes and breathed in sharply. When she opened them, Tara was still close, blinking rapidly and trying to say something.

Dawn kissed Tara quickly, as if she had been dared or it was spin-the-bottle.

"Happy New Year, Dawn," Tara finally said.

Oooooooh, the James/Lily makes me happy. Possibly because my Quills!J&L just RP'd their first kiss and all, and they are squishy. Silly James. *pets him*

Ach, I have no J/L icons. This will have to suffice *g*

I also love wicked, naughty, taking-advantage-of-situtation Scully. :D

Happy New Year!

Hehe, you probably just need to write them more often ;D

And yes, yes you should. LOL. Just know that the busiest players tend to make things a bit slash-heavy, though it's often just in the comments, which are a devilish beast to figure out at first. But it's all quite fun. And I'd really rather fancy getting you hooked enough to want to take on a character, a cool, odd character. ;D
